The touch hole is the hole at the breech end of a flintlock rifle or pistol. The proper name for the hole on a cannon is the vent, although some refer to it as the touch hole. I am a Civil War reenactor artillerist and have owned a cannon for 15 years.
Of course, Doctor Toon, the cartoonists themselves have been known to call the citizens of this benighted little kingdom “Idiots”. That is humor.
Calling other people in real life figurative idiots may be a good way of pointing out that they’re being silly. That too is humor.
Calling other people in real life real idiots, on the other hand, had better be calling a spade a spade or else it’s anything but helpful. Either way, it’s not humor.

Joe, in addition a touch hole is the hole at the back end of a cannon where the slow match touches off the powder.

Bung, I’d say go with the stand-up comedian line. In your time and place, that’s pretty much what you are. :)
