Somehow Irv’s run down garage doesn’t seem to provide the right ambiance for a gourmet’ oil.

Does Cosmo need to fill up the oil and check the gas?

French oil man? Wouldn’t have the guts to raise prices every two hours. Very unrealistic.

At our oil change, I’m usually the waiter. Sometimes up to an hour.

Sounds good, but don’t forget to let it breathe a bit before you put it in.

I had a Studebaker in high school in the early 60’s. Used to pull into a gas station and say fill it with oil and check the gas. It was a smoker. I used to use Ray-Lube oil. Cheapest oil at the time.

The mechanics couldn’t figure out why my Dad’s Studebaker used so much oil. When I climbed underneath I found a hole the size of a silver dollar in the oil pan. D’oh!

I thought you can’t use synthetic oil in older cars.

You need the real deal with added phosphorous or you ruin the engine. And extra lead in the gas.

Irv quite possibly is acting this way not because he doesn’t know the Prof (quite the contrary), but because he knows him all too well and is pulling his, er, wing.

The alternative, of course, is that Irv is half-serious and that’s why the Prof is seriously stunned.

Of course you can use synthetic oil in older cars. I’ve been using Mobil 1 15-50 in cars that age for years. It works very well.
