I did get the original reference to van Gogh; however, I was not aware of the “licking his brushes to sharpen them” technique..Thanks for the enlightenment…

I visited the Norton Simon Museum this weekend and learned that Van Gogh actually cut off only his left ear lobe, not the whole ear. Which doesn’t negate that he might well have poisoned himself on his paint chemicals.

Thanks for all the downer Van Gogh info. At least those art history degrees weren’t a complete waste of your parents money.
