It seems rather odd that the vicar would be laughing about someone that doesn’t have a job. Probably because he himself has found a way to beat the system.

Being a member of his “flock”, there is little wonder that Flo has such a negative outlook on life.

It’s because it is hilarious to even imagine Andy working. And the Vicar and Flo can see the humor in acceptance. Laughter is the best medicine.

The vicar of Dibley is a riot!! Especially if you have ever vacationed in England.. The British sense of humor is so dry us Yanks almost can’t catch most of it.

I take offense. The Vicar of Dibley is about pursuing the opposite sex,as are most TV shows either side of the pond. Andy Capp is pure (at least once they got rid of the barmaid) pursuing beer, darts, ponies, soccer and a proper mid-day nap.. Andy works hard keeping Flo from extravagances that might cut into his pub money. He is a very busy man and cannot be bothered by such inconveniences like work.

At least, the vicar and Flo both know what the chances of Andy getting a job actually are.

I can remember when Andy Capp wasn’t quite so pure, Lewreader.

Andy would chase any barmaid or pretty girl in the bar, would beat up Flo if she crossed him and would get into knock-down, drag out fights with anyone (including Flo), all the while managing to keep his cigarette in his mouth!

But that is all politically incorrect now. Yes, Andy Capp is pure..but a bit of the life in the strip is gone, too, IMO.

I have to wonder why it’s so widely believed that Andy never has any money just because he doesn’t have a job When it come to darts, ponies and soccer I have to think that Andy has made a bunch of his own money with prize money and bets But I’m sure like other gamesmen he’s had down turns in his luck at times but that don’t have to mean he’s one to toss in the towel and get a job So maybe Flo and the Vicar are laughing because secretly they believe in Andy’s skills but never miss an opportunity to poke a little fun on his behalf

Vicar, I do not think Andy would get a job yet. You know him very well and he never gets any job at all. Andy is lazy sinner.

Funnyfan, if I recall, Flo and Andy would beat the booger out of each other. I recall an giant cloud of dust with various limbs poking out here and there, with an occassional break to chat with a passerby.

At least its a running joke between them. To bad this strip wasn’t what I hoped for. In today’s Baby Blues strip reminds me of Andy when the dad asks his wife for a glass of water and he gets a dirty look from her. She has a basket of children’s clothes she carring and not to happy about it. But alas this is the wrong strip for comparison.

    Beat the system?

My pastor is one of the busiest men I know. And I can only imagine some of the issues that he has to deal with. Yet to others, he always appears at ease and makes time to listen to them. When I first met him I thought he had it easy. Boy, was I wrong.

Maybe you should get to know one.

Dawn French as the vicar is brilliant. And all Dawn French’s writings are so hilarious, for example Absolutely Fabulous.
