Yes, dogs do get confused. My friends basset hound still expects to see her when I go take him for walks. He has a good home now, with her (Linda’s) son and his wife. But he still looks for her. I know he misses her and wonders where she is.

Two concurrent stories: cat: lived for 6 years with a devoted owner. When owner got sick cat totally ignored her (as someone else was feeding it) . dog: another friend was sick in bed and her dog sat by her bed for days. Wouldn’t leave her side for food so we had to feed her in the bedroom. Which animal would you like living in your home? and which animal is closer to having human emotions????

Don’t worry little guy, the confusion will pass. Now you have a forever home…….well as soon as you win over Ray. It won’t be hard, his bark is worse than his bite.

The only species of cat I’ve known (50 years) who was responsive to sickness in owners was Siamese; the others yawned.
