I to remember penny gumball machines.
Money from most of these machines went to the Silver Towers camp, if I remember right this was a camp for kids with special needs in central Vermont.
Don’t know which artist drew today’s strip and yesterday’s, but that curved bold text in the speech balloons is really distracting. I know the signature says “Fisher,” but it seems unlikely he’d do it that way.
BTW, why is Mutt spending his precious pennies on gum when he could be using them to watch What the Butler Saw on a mutoscope? Priorities, Mutt, priorities!

I’m glad it hasn’t gone past a single Quarter on those gum machines. Kids shouldn’t have to blow alot money for tiny treat.

When I was young we’d find mills. Ten mills was worth a penny. (Tax mills)

Many charities have used these devices over the decades. Now, chances are that the machine belongs to a scam artist.

I agree TRAVBURG. I question big white metal boxes that say “Donate Clothing”. To who?

Richard, are you talking about the red-colored fiber tokens issued for rationing during WW-II?
