Whenever I asked how to spell a word, I was told to look it up in the dictionary. How can you look up a word in the dictionary if you don’t know how to spell it?

Look it up in the dictionary? I found out how to spell “euchre” by looking up card games in the encyclopedia; I would have looked under U and Y in the dictionary before looking under E.When I asked one parent how to spell “eight,” I was asked, “You mean ‘I ate my food’ or eight the number?” So I answered, “Eight the number.” A very different spelling from “ate.”
