    Pick the ONE that’s NOT guilty, if there is one.

    I’ve never been in to Catholic Bashing but I think the way the pope is handling this is absolutely disgraceful. These pedophelic priests and bishops visited the greatest of evils on their communities and yet the Vatican thinks they can just hang their head in shame and say “We’re really really sorry, it will never happen again.”

    Times have changed and we as parents are all more sensitive to the dangers of allowing our children near authority figures unattended so I doubt anything of this nature can happen again but those that were involved in the past should be recognized publically and cast out of their orders right into the hands of the authorities.

    Don’t get me wrong, this could happen in any institution that allows adults unsupervised time with children because evil wears many uniforms: Cassock, Scout Uniform, Stethascope, Baseball cap, chalk smudges on their wrists. But most institutions have gotten wise and created Youth Protection Policies to reduce the likliehood of this happening.

    Boston spoke out, Ireland speaks out, and now Germany. The Swiss Guards can not protect The Vatican from this. The actual teachings of Christ may begin to be taught and the Old Testaments and Paul and The Popes can be placed where they belong, where MEN thought they could be GODS.

    Just discovered a few months ago that the “boarding school” my brother was sent to in the mid ’50s was closed in ‘72, and the church recently paid off a huge settlement based on abuse of the boys. It isn’t close to a “new” unresolved problem. It also explains a lot of his “odd and angry” behaviors over the years.

    Que les apliquen la ley………………..ojo por ojo diente por diente…………….. Si todos los afectados los denunciaran , la iglesia se queda sin curas.

    Could someone please translate Yango’s comment for me. Seems the only language I’m completely literate in is English. Thanks.

    Hey Joe, the Vatican has A LOT of changes to make if they are going to start teaching what Jesus Christ actually taught; a lot of false doctrines like the trinity and hellfire, and idols like the cross and statues of various ‘saints’, have got to go for a start. Not to mention all the holidays that have their origin in pagan rituals, like the upcoming Easter, whose very name is derived from Astarte (also known as Ishtar), the Chaldean goddess of fertility (both eggs and rabbits are symbols of fertility, for obvious reasons).

    @Rekem: Babelfish translates it as

    “That they apply to the law ……………….. eye to them by eye tooth by tooth …………….. If all the denounced affected them, the church remains without you cure.”

    Don’t you feel more enlightened now?

    I was at a mass in moncton a few years ago (In 2004, I became a buddhist in 2007). It was during the easter week. There were two altar boys…two very pretty teenage altar boys on each side of the archbishop and I thought to myself “that bishop must have fun with those two!”

    Let me get this straight; I had no reason but a lousy stereotype to believe that there was something wrong with that priest, but I know I wasn’t the only one in the church who tought the exact same thing. Most catholics completely lost any trust in their clergymen not because of what they have done personally, but because ot other priests somewhere else have done.

    The vast majority of catholic priests are not child molesters and there is child abuse outside of religion, but the stereotype is so widespread that everytime a scandl like that breaks, it disgraces all priests, from Germany to Canada to Australia.

    The church has trouble recruiting new priests…many religious young men don’t become priests out of fear of being seen as child molesters.

    Church, I can only assume you’re an angry AND guilt-ridden Catholic AND “conservative”? Merely pointing out the reality of issues, and that people are abused by certain acts of those in authority, whether religious or political, isn’t being angry- just factual. That those hyper-sensitive to their own failings or to those of whom they admire, get bent out of shape, isn’t my fault.

    Well, even though I don’t actually know Spanish, I can get the first part, but the end defeats me. “They should apply the law …. an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.” Then there’s something about “if all those affected would denounce them”, but then I get lost. Come on, the US is a bilingual country, somebody must know Spanish.

    There has been such a long and noble tradition of Catholic thought and service, and it’s a disgrace that the Pope and the rest of the hierarchy have not dealt with this criminal situation seriously long ago. There is no excuse.

    It’s interesting that the Catholic bishops opposed the bill… and two other organizations, of the laity and the nuns, supported it. Is this a case of theory versus practice, or elites alienated from their base?
