Sending a kid to his room just isn’t the punishment it used to be….
I probably sound like an old coot when I say this, but in my day … we didn’t have tablets, computers, or smartphones …most of us didn’t even have our own radios, much less our own TVs in our rooms…..and even those lucky few who did would be told not to use them, or play records, during time-outs.
Of course, I wouldn’t have minded, had my parents ever chosen this method of punishment…I preferred to be there anyway, with my nose in a book.
I’m surprised Elliot minds… unless he has fewer electronics than even the little kids I know have now.
I don’t remember ever being sent to my room for punishment. Bedtime came too early for my liking (with lights “off”. I used a flashlight under the coversso I could read. Sometimes I read the dictionary (etymology taught me a lot).
This time of year everything hurts Tony. As soon as the weather changes. Knees, back, neck, shoulders and my foot. And that doesn’t count the hamstring injury I’m still trying to get over..I got spanked and sent to my room too. Only it used to happen after being yanked into the house by my long hair in front of the whole neighborhood. Fun times they weren’t.
The spanking my parents gave were balloon sticks (willow, I presume) that left red welts but did no internal damage (I suppose their reason). The very few spankings I gave were a wide leather belt (for the dramatic effect and noise) and after just one, using said belt on the Formica table usually sufficed.

And Tony….don’t ask an old coot what hurts.
Nobody’s got time for the answer.

Just 30 minutes? My parents could lecture on the same infraction for days.

bev, re last night’s comments: that monkey or whatever looks like the late Jimmy Durante, nose for nose, LOL!
I watched Flipper, yes, but my love of dolphins comes from nature show and meeting some “up close and personal” and such.
