WildBill40That’s not true. Jokes (they’re actually called “gags” in cartoondom) are not recycled. Themes, like a deserted island or a psychiatrist chair, etc) are revisited, but new gags or takes on these themes are done anew al the time.
If this were not the case no one would ever read cartoons and there would be ONE book of cartoons that covered all the original cartoons. Cartoons are like letters of the alphabet, and there are an endless number of combinations that can be used to create new gag innovations.
I do understand why YOU feel this way, though, because I feel the same way myself when I read a lot of the cartoons on this site. ANd that’s because a lot of cartoonists are too lazy to Google a cartoon idea to see if it’s been done before. Also, a lot of cartoonists don’t educate themselves with other cartoons, especially other cartoons in their own genre.
Having said all that, that doesn’t mean that a cartoonist once in a great while might hit on something that’s all ready been done. It’s just that the rate of this happening on this site cries “Googlephobia”

Jokes are recycled all the time, and each generation thinks they’re new.
