In July 2014, Russia banned all swearing in films, on television and in theaters! The Curvier Beaked whale was recently recorded swimming at depths of 10,000 feet, making it the deepest diving mammal- Curviers can hold their breath for more than two hours. Was twice cut from early versions of the Wizard of Oz (1939) as the directors thought it too long and slow!

They cut out a scene with the “Jitterbug” from the movie too. Unfortunately, the prints of the scene were destroyed.

Bleeping isn’t as bad as replacement words, for sure. Unfortunately, for some reason, they never bleep movies that I’ve seen.

What did you learn today?
“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” can’t be sung on Russian TV because it’s too slow and has too many swear words. Recording it for the movie, Judy Garland had to learn to hold her breath for two hours.

I’ve seen shows on TV where the sound is bleeped but not the captioning. And vice versa.

There’s actually an introduction to Over the Rainbow that isn’t sung in the movie. You can hear it in some cover versions. Jane Monheit sings it on one of her albums. “When all the world is a hopeless jumble and the raindrops tumble all around….”
