Early posts today seem somewat unfocused … drifting, I’ll have to agree, better Leaky hadn’t gone on a gambling spree. Her generous (sorry ‘He’) shower of verbal coins is missed today..
Bit of a coincidence, my daughter just returned from a week at Las Vegas. No exciting stories of falling jackpots.
Someone needs to mention this. Ted Slampyak’s ART has ‘matured’ nicely in the context of this strip. He’s come a long way since he suceeded Alan Kupperberg in early July 2004
His layouts and expressions add great value to one of the best written continuity strips remaining in the business.
Devonshade, I feel that’s an unfair assessment. My dictionary defines the word ‘hack’ as a writer who produces dull, uninteresting work. He keeps a lot of us interested, and I’m one who doesn’t read all the comics. Most of the comics, even here at GoComics are, to me at least, boring.
Sydney, I appreciate your comments. I don’t have any reprints of the 2000 strips so I can’t make a comparison, but I do know that I like Slampyak’s work, and Maeder’s too.
davidf42, Let me hasten to say I’m not all that familiar with the history of the producers of Annie (Dick Tracy is more my thing)
But as I recall, after Harold Gray the strip folded. The Annie movie rekindled some interest and Leonard Star did it for several years
He was suceeded by Jay Maeder (scripts) and Andrew Pepoy (Art), Maeder who at one time had been the Features Editor of the New York Daily News, has to his credit, the Official Biography of the Dick Tracy strip. I gather he got to know the TMS strips of the 40’s and 50’s inside out. And I’m sure it has contributed to the right “feel” for writing Annie.
I wish he was writing Dick Tracy too.
Pepoy, I seen to recal (?), threw in the towel complaining that income from the strip was not rewarding (like Starr his art was top rate) Then Alan Kupperberg came on board. He left and Ted Slampyak took over the art in mid 2004.
My “comments” were not intended to compare him with “anyone” other than his work now, against what it was back then.
I’m not implying that we have a Milton Caniff here, just an artist that does an acceptable job. And I agree, he is better trhan a “hack”!.

And what about the cams in her room? What do they show? Spare no detail!
But if this is real, what do the cams show about the detective?

I agree VB about Leaky not being here. I’m sure he’s having enough fun though. I like your avatar pic. He was one of my favorite actors.

Four hours later, David comes on. Hello? Hello … Hello … Hello … Anyway, I’m glad Connie got off, but it doesn’t solve the mystery. Who kilt him?

And Sydney, I didn’t know Kupperberg did Annie. Was he a fill-in between Starr and Slampyak?

Sure is!
That settles it, since I’ve received a lot of positive comments about my avatar. I’ll keep Walter Brennan as my “permanent” avatar!

How is this all about Ollie? Considering the hit he took for the Feds to catch the Blue Circle (how goes that these days?)
