@Chris, while some tales are definitely based on real people, their accomplishments get embellished over time to the point they become tall tales. Think of an inter-generational game of “telephone”.
At the risk of offending some, in the days before writing Noah was likely some farmer who put a few animals on a raft when the Tigris and Euphrates flooded and before long, the story kept getting bigger and bigger, until it became a world wide flood with a single boat with every animal in the world on it.
