Usual response to any quote that shows the thing is a bunch of blood soaked bronze age fables.
Notice no one ever has this problem when the quote they like supports their viewpoint of course.
I always have to wonder how people managed to get along prior to 325 CE and the “construction” of the bible since there was no official canon prior to that but there were hundreds of “gospels” of almost every imaginable sort.
Here’s a couple of passages to practice on, and see if you can’t get them to come out OK by considering the context:“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire” (Rev. 20.15)“Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones” (Ps. 137.9)“Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence” (1 Tim. 2.11-12).“And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of” (Gen. 22.2)I think you’ll find that the context of each of these verses makes them even more nauseating than they seem at first reading, as they all provide inadequate reasons for the actions to be taken. And, I haven’t even brought up slavery and genocide, two of the main preoccupations of the bible writers (hint: they were pro both). But, that’s Rev. Doofus for you.

True. Scripture must be interpreted as a whole, not bits of it taken out of contest.
