Maybe $18,000 would get you a cruise to France, unless you win a trip on a game show (either “The Price is Right”, “Wheel of Fortune”, or “Let’s Make a Deal”).
Well…for an imaginary dog to go on an imaginary trip, 18 cents seems like plenty. Oh…hah, hah. The 18 cents is imaginary, too. I remember that during the ‘68 Olympics and then again in ’72, John Misha Petkevich, from Great Falls, Montana, was America’s hopeful champion in male figure skating. Guess he didn’t make as big of an impression on Schulz or Snoopy to get mentioned in this storyline…..
I remember one in particular with Frieda where Lucy comes in and sees her leaning on the piano. She leaves in a jealous funk, after which she meets Snoopy, who advises to fight for her man. She goes back to Frieda, leaps on her, beats the heck out of her, and then comes back all disheveled to shake hands with Snoopy!

Maybe for eighteen cents, they could get the Olympics to come there.

Couldn’t he just fly his Sopwith Camel over?

They didn’t. This IS part of that story arc (although I don’t remember this conversation between Linus and Schroeder).

Is this the only instance of someone other than Lucy at the piano? I don’t remember any one else ever!!!

That would’ve required the government to make sense.
