That happened both ways on a family trip I took to Branson. My only piece of checked luggage was missing a full day each way and handle was ripped off on the trip there, replaced at the only store in town (Walmart), and on the way back somehow instant coffee got loose in some hair spray. I hate current day air travel (it used to be fun and everyone wore good clothes).

Don’t give them any ideas. An acquaintance had his luggage lost, and when it was finally returned, it was damaged bass enough it had to be replaced.
