“Ladner” (from the French l’Adner, I think) is a famously-common name along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. There used to be a high-school football game there called the “Ladner Bowl.”

Compadres, she’s indulging in the idle but interesting gossip of the kitchen staff in any major kitchen. Secrets are shared and there is a sense of community. That is what she misses.

I should have known….For many years I was one of only a couple guys on a banquet crew of about 25……We heard just about everything….After a while they didn’t even try to alter what they said…….Many of them are still friends…..

Would those be the jumbo shrimp?
