I think the humor in this strip is parenthetical.

I hope they are wearing welding goggles and not just sunglasses. An even safer method of viewing an eclipse is to project it through binoculars onto a smooth surface.

One of my faves. Now I’ll be thinking of it for hours. LOL

Nobody seems to appreciate the cleverness of the cartoon!
