At my grade school, there was a candy store across the street from the playground. Only 2 students were allowed in the store at a time during school hours. There was always a mad dash to be the first 2. I could not run, so I waited until after school. The owner was a neighbor of ours and knew me very well & let me in first after school!!
I believe that character’s name is Patty (not to be confused with Peppermint Patty). She was often seen in the early strips, but got pushed into the background later and pretty much disappeared entirely toward the end. Poor kid. That’s show biz!
