Anyone else hear 2006’s “Snoopy vs. Osama” by the Royal Guardsmen? They had Charlie Brown driving a Bradley in that (Snoopy works in the motor pool). Guess he’s on his way to being a General, and the band decided after Schulz’s death that he started aging.
This is the one thing about Charlie Brown I do not like, his continuous self pity party. If someone praises him, he still feels bad. He hangs around Linus, Lucy and the gang, and even is their baseball manager, and yet he complains he has no friends. Some days I just want to smack good ol’ Charlie Brown!
Schulz sure took this strip in a dark direction a few years later. Looking back on it, it’s amazing his 1960s and 1970s strips were ever published, as they took a very consistently dark view of childhood and children.

But you’ve always been a good man, Charlie Brown, in the 50 years you had been in the funny papers.

Back in those days CB had friends. Just goes to show that while misery loves company, company does not love misery!

But the dark view Schulz took on was certainly present in “A Charlie Brown Christmas” which is one of the better Christmas Specials ever.
