Was Calvin’s house designed by Rube Goldberg?

Today’s strip shows Calvin’s imagination, but it’s also something his mom might wish for. One of my favorite C&H Sunday strips.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of the Wallace & Gromit short film “The Wrong Trousers.”

I bet the makers of Wallace and Grommit were fans of C&H. This strip reminds me of the wakeup scene in The Wrong Trousers—but Calvin came first by quite a few years.

I love all the “sounds” in this process.

@orinoco womble: In fact, “The Wrong Trousers” adventure of Wallace & Gromit came earlier than this sunday strip of Calvin and Hobbes.The Wrong Toursers came to cinema in December 1993, with a production time of about two or even more years – so let’s date it back to 1991.The C&H strip above was first published in August 1995, according to http://www.reemst.com/calvin_and_hobbes/stripsearch?q=calvin+bedtime+sunday&search=normal&start=0&details=3003However – both are great works of art! :-)

How can everyone be so animated this early in the morning?

No, I didn’t make that one on the fly. it was already in one of my Photobucket accounts. It usually takes a few hours to make a gif animation depending on how much cutting needs to be done.

Now you know bloody well that if there was such a system for getting a kid ready for bed, he’d NEVER get to sleep. (“Ha-ha-ha-ha – do it again!”)

I wish I had a system like Calvin’s!

I think that’s how George Jetson gets to bed.

Every house should be equipped with that, Calvin. It would make bedtime a lot more fun for sure……………..for the kids. (Not so much for Mom)

Remember that Calvin is imagining this, it didn’t really happen. Which is why he is despondent.

God knows I love Bill Watterson; this is some of his undeniable greatness. What drawing! What inventiveness! He didn’t even need all of his wonderful metaphysics and intensely intelligent comment. Just this: the effervescent joy of childhood! I’m always in awe.

Can I get this installed in my own house?

I think this is one of the few Calvin and Hobbes strips that I haven’t seen before. That being said, I love it!

what about brushing teeth??
