In October 2014, the Iranian runner Reza Baluchi was rescued by the US Coast Guard after trying to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Florida to Bermuda, more than 1000 miles, in a giant inflatable ball. The crystallized urine of the hyrax, a small African mammal, is used by perfumers for its earthy scent. Japanese designer Yukiko Morita creates lamps from real French baguettes-naming them pampshades after the Japanese word for bread!

I’m amazed Furukawa Sanae of anime “Clannad” didn’t come up with it with pampshade (the Japanese word for bread actually comes from the Portuguese word for it which is pão).

Boy, Bermuda is farther from Florida than I thought. I kept thinking it was near the Bahamas. Obviously the Beach Boys threw me off.
