Transcript:
Eddie: So if "we are Charlie," then do we condone the drawing of the prophet Mohammed? Cuco: As a membre of a marginalized group, I've never felt the urge to mock another marginalized group for the sake of mockery. Cuco: Hey, we are Charlie, we aren't crazy.

Let’s not forget Ahmed Merabet, the Muslim police officer who was slain defending the right of Charlie Hebdo to regularly publish cartoons offensive to his religion.

Not about the mockery, it’s about the intolerant over reacting violent members.

Hey Lalo, Miss Columbia Paulina Vega is Miss Universe and Nia Sanchez of the USA is the runner-up. Aren’t you proud? As per religions, this is the XXI Century. Isn’t it high time to debunk the fairy tales (and as if they were all original without older antecedents) of a late Iron Age or of a Camel trader in the VII century with dizzy spells? I get steamed that some people put so much faith in that narrative of an oriental tribe that never achieved much glory outside being a pest to whichever or whatever was the dominant power of the day (watch out USA, they were in Communist Russia now they are the capitalists’ best friends). As if the temples in Athens (Parthenon), Paestum (Temples of Neptune, of Hera and of Cere), Rome (Pantheon) were not religious statements of the highest caliber but chopped liver to be eclipsed by the cunning tales of the Old Testament. Since most believers go along by inertia, mockery is a form worth pursuing to waking them up to a somber reality.

Muslims are marginalized? Since when? They seem to be doing quite well, thanks; lots of people, lots of oil.If they’re marginalized, it’s by their own venal/incompetent rulers. Maybe that’s why they seem so insecure about their own religion.

Heh.
I believe that, since it’s the cockroach talking, he means that cockroaches are the marginalized group.

The problem with Free Speech is that the offensive stuff is what is protected.
Yup. Although what’s offensive is in the eye of the beholder. So the real radical thing about free speech is that it is meant to protect speech that’s offensive to those who are in power.

Here’s the problem with defending Scalise. Lalo is not representing the people in a position of power..he is just a cartoonist with a point of view. Scalise is an elected official who has power and influence and participates in making laws tht effect all races. When he shows his racist side he is doing disservice to his position and failing a good portion of his constituency. Who he hangs with points to how he will behave. If Lalo draws a cartoon he only impacts his readers…he makes no laws, affects no legislation and hurts only those who look for hurt.
