My Chevy got “recalled,” but all they did was take out the part that didn’t work and put in one that did. From what I’ve seen on the news, I’m guessing the Toyota problem isn’t as easy to fix.
A lot of the old clunkers are coming out of mothballs because (yay!) they are now old enough to be Smog Check exempt. Good thing, if you look at the exhaust on that puppy!
Misha, the much-publicized recalls earlier this year were Toyota’s first in North America. Traditionally, the company has a very good track record.
FurryFoot, the Japanese have been in the automotive business since the 1920s, and Honda started marketing subcompacts in the U.S. in the early ’70s, followed closely by Toyota and “Datsun” (what Nissan called itself over here so people wouldn’t be reminded of their tanks rolling through Manchuria during WWII).
notinks, Toyota is recalling the whole vehicle until their QA people are satisfied that there are no other potential safety issues. GM just wasn’t that thorough with your recall.
Looks like an 81-83 Toyota Corolla 2-door sedan - square headlights, boxy styling. I drove an ‘84 hatchback, had a ‘77 fastback when I was in high school. Never had a lick of trouble from either one of them. I drive a ‘91 Lexus ES 250 now, and it doesn’t give me any trouble, either…

Like no Toyotas before this ever had recalls? Look how old that car is–Odds are it could have had several in its life!

Most pluggers I know still drive “vehicles” built before the Japanese got into the business - from the 1970s and older. This looks like a youngster!

The recall covered MODEL YEARS back to the 1998 Sienna. Just because it hadn’t happened before did not mean it was not needed.
