    you guys eat french toast in australia? thought you ate kangeroo stew or some such thing. — I would like to someday dine in an authentic australian restaurant

    G’day Jason, Dry, Joe, Barb, Lonewolf, Bjorn and all Megssie fans.

    Well, Mum had been keeping a little secret. By the time Dad and Ginger get through all that toast they should be able to parlez vous francais with the best of them. If there was a fouth ticket with the prize I will more than help out to make sure that toast does not go stale.

    Reminds me of a competition way back (maybe in the 1970s) where a cash prize was offered to the winner of a competition held by a canned soup company. A list of attributes of the soup was on the label and the idea was to put them in the order the judges thought were most important. Entries had to be on a label taken from a can.pf the soup.

    A group of university students who shared a house, worked out that buying enough cans of the soup to get enough labels to cover all combinations would cost less than the prize, so they filled the house with soup cans while they removed the labels and set about working out all the entries.

    For sure, they got the right combination but so did someone else, and it appears the judges liked that person’s slogan better - this also was part of the entry.

    Took the students months to get rid of thousands of tins of unidentified soup at a great financial loss.

    Yes, we do eat Kangaroo steak; can be as good, if not better, than the best beef steak.

    If you visit Oz some time then authentic Australian restaurants can be found in the Yellow Pages phone directory under the headings, Chinese, Indian, Italian, French, Greek, Vietnamese, German, MacDonalds …..

    I remember damper bread from one of the Upfield stories. Now I’ll have to try making it.

    I’ve looked through the damper bread recipe. Seems like a cross between biscuits (American) and fry bread.

    I used to do quite a bit of dutch oven cooking and baking, but I think I’ll leave that for later and try it in the oven first.
