Marry her Oliver- if youā€™ll be stuck with someone you donā€™t like forever, might as well get the marriage tax deduction.

*VB*, I agree, itā€™s a classic, with good acting. Eileen Heckert won an Oscar for her role.

Good morning Marg, Leaky, Vista and all you early birds who were here 6 hours ago. And good morning to everyone else as well.

Marg, the film received 4 Academy Award nominations, but no wins. The nominations were Best Actress in a Leading Role (Nancy Kelly), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Eileen Heckart and Patty McCormack, separately) and Best Cinematography, Black-and-White (Harold Rosson).

However, Ms Heckart did win the Golden Globe for this film.

Poor Oliver hasnā€™t had much luck when it comes to the ladies. The first Mrs. Warbucks was a shrew. Then, after she reformed, she got drowned in a shipwreck. So then he marries Trixie, a show girl, (which may help explain Ollieā€™s attitude towards Connie) who tried to poison Sandy and send Annie to a reformatory. They ended up separating, though I donā€™t remember if Trixie or the original Mrs. Warbucks ever put in appearances later. Cartoon strip death was never very permanent in Harold Grayā€™s comics. Though it may be that Mrs. Warbucks stayed dead, because she was the only character in the strip who knew who Annieā€™s real parents were, and so far as I can recall, this secret was never revealed.

I saw ā€œThe Bad Seedā€ on DVD a few years ago.

After watching the entire movie, I thought Iā€™d watch some of it again with Patty McCormackā€™s (Rhoda) commentary. She is really funny to listen to. I ended up watching the whole thing again with her commentary.

A small Dick Tracy-type recap in the first four panels, then the storyline carries on with Connie Gale being taken away as ā€œa person of interestā€.

A warning: If you leaksqueaky and marg donā€™t start talking more about this strip instead of anything else that doesnā€™t relate to it, the spammer isnā€™t the only one thatā€™s going to be flagged!

Dampwaffle - I had forgotten all that. I barely remember the first wife, but not the second. Was the second marriage during the Leonard Starr years? I missed most of that era because I was so busy with a lot of other stuff in my life. In fact I think I missed the entire transition era too between Gray and Starr.

    davidf42:

I saw it on the DVD that I got from my local library. I just looked it up now and saw that it was a 2004 release of the film. 50th anniversary I assume.

Her commentary runs the full length of the film.
