Good morning Marg, Leaky, Vista and all you early birds who were here 6 hours ago. And good morning to everyone else as well.
Marg, the film received 4 Academy Award nominations, but no wins. The nominations were Best Actress in a Leading Role (Nancy Kelly), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Eileen Heckart and Patty McCormack, separately) and Best Cinematography, Black-and-White (Harold Rosson).
However, Ms Heckart did win the Golden Globe for this film.
Poor Oliver hasnāt had much luck when it comes to the ladies. The first Mrs. Warbucks was a shrew. Then, after she reformed, she got drowned in a shipwreck. So then he marries Trixie, a show girl, (which may help explain Ollieās attitude towards Connie) who tried to poison Sandy and send Annie to a reformatory. They ended up separating, though I donāt remember if Trixie or the original Mrs. Warbucks ever put in appearances later. Cartoon strip death was never very permanent in Harold Grayās comics. Though it may be that Mrs. Warbucks stayed dead, because she was the only character in the strip who knew who Annieās real parents were, and so far as I can recall, this secret was never revealed.
After watching the entire movie, I thought Iād watch some of it again with Patty McCormackās (Rhoda) commentary. She is really funny to listen to. I ended up watching the whole thing again with her commentary.
A small Dick Tracy-type recap in the first four panels, then the storyline carries on with Connie Gale being taken away as āa person of interestā.
A warning: If you leaksqueaky and marg donāt start talking more about this strip instead of anything else that doesnāt relate to it, the spammer isnāt the only one thatās going to be flagged!
davidf42Iām sorry to read that no Oscar awards were given. They certainly were deserved. Thanks for the correction. See what happens when I quickly read a blurb, and not the whole article?
Dampwaffle - I had forgotten all that. I barely remember the first wife, but not the second. Was the second marriage during the Leonard Starr years? I missed most of that era because I was so busy with a lot of other stuff in my life. In fact I think I missed the entire transition era too between Gray and Starr.
Josh THE MAJOR TROLL is now making threats?? What Marg & Leaky are doing violates NO* GoComics rules. *Your THREATS, however, DO! Everyone knows your are also Tink and a couple other TROLLS!!
I saw it on the DVD that I got from my local library. I just looked it up now and saw that it was a 2004 release of the film. 50th anniversary I assume.
