I wouldn’t boast about receiving a large refund. It usually means you are having too much money withheld from your paycheck, and thus allowing the IRS to use your money free of charge for all those months. When they send your money back to you, they don’t add on interest.

In all the years I’ve filed returns, I’ve always received either a small refund or none. I’ve never had to send in a check.
