Wide popularity isn’t always the criterion used to determine which comics stay in the paper. Being popular with a small but very noisy fandom can help, or if the strip fills a “niche” the publisher feels is needed. “Mallard Fillmore” for example lives entirely on that "we need a ‘balance’ between progressive and reactionary politics’ niche.

My paper dropped “Fillmore”.

I’ve never caught Lalo in a lie. The sad state of politics and the nature of prejudice and ideology together leads to a fertile ground for slander and intentional misrepresentation. The daily barrage of lies aimed at Obama and Clinton is a perfect example. What is the slander or lie of the day? Just turn on Limbaugh or Fox Spews and find out. Within seconds it will be all over the Rights corporate media sewer. Whatever happened to facts and real reporters who cared about digging out the facts instead of digging up diseased racial slurs?

The First Amendment to the US Constitution is a God send to writers and cartoonists and a bane to the gullible. Freedom is a messy business but worth it.

It’s not up to the cartoonist where the strip is placed. It’s up to the newspaper. Only the most powerful cartoonists can push for a certain section, which I believ Garry Trudeau did. If you checked multiple papers, you might see the same strip in different sections.
