Cicero is right! My dogs are like my children, there is no way I could give them to some one else no matter how much they needed them. Mrs. Mutt forgets there are hundreds of unwanted dogs at shelters. She should get one of them for the poor boy and not ask her son to give up his. I know it’s just a gag, but it is a good example of how some people don’t think beyond the inch of their noses!
Only problem with this story, is Its 100 years OLD.
There were dog pounds, not shelters. Those pounds weren’t greatest in bring up healthy dogs if they kept them alive for that long. Since they put them asleep alot. Shelters are non-profits, dog pounds back THEN were run by the city, with limited budget.
I’m not sure the availablity of dogs, in the 1930s, but i can’t say they won be possible to find one a stray verse paying big money (at the time) to get one from the pound.
Not quite 100 years. I was reading current Mutt and Jeff when I was a kid. Am 63 now. From the look of the hair and dress style on the Mrs., the time line is in the 1940’s.

Ever notice that Cicero looks more like Jeff than Mutt????

Travis, the comic is less than 100 years old, but the joke itself is (way) more than 100.

Sounds like she’s using this as an excuse to get rid of Cicero’s dog.

I have a better idea, Cicero: Give that kid your mom instead.
