Have you read the opening scene from Romeo and Juliette? Not the watered down version they show in the movies, but the actual scene from the original play. “R” rated stuff at the very least!
I’d be surprised to hear Shakespeare spoken in today’s English rather than back-then’s English. It would probably still be hard to understand, methinks.

Shakespeare actually was the editor. Seneca wrote the revenge tragedy that later became Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.”

Tell the kids Shakespeare is full of sex and violence. They’ll read it. Next semester, Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales for students 18 and older.

Great Performances on PBS is airing Hamlet tonight. It stars Patrick Stewart and David Tennant. I am taking the night off to watch it.
