Business man? I thought Ziggy was more âdiner styleâ. What does he do? Heâs always flying around and dining out. I thought he needed either a job or a loan like the rest of us?
The businessmanâs lunch is like the regular lunch except that when it fails, the management asks the government for billions of taxpayersâ dollars for a bailout. Then your insurance is cancelled because the heartburn is a pre-existing condition. When you get back to work after lunch, you find that your job has been outsourced to Lower Slobovia and youâre now unemployed. Meanwhile, your Republican senator has blocked passage of extended unemployment benefits, so your mortgage goes into default and youâre homeless as well, and Rush Limbaugh is telling you itâs all Obamaâs fault.
How many of those commenting actually had their income taxes go up this year? Unless you are pretty well off, your income taxes will have been lower, not higher.
Ziggy is usually more thoughtful than this. Most people pay less than 28% in taxes and most of the expenditures come back as social security and medicare payments. General government only costs 3% of the tax revenue at the Federal level. In short, this is a cheap shot, not really Ziggyâs normal level of humor.
This type of strip also encourages the anti-tax, anti-government, and anti-American Americans (see some of the confused comments above).
