tcayer - In 2001, I had a bad attack of kidney stones. When asked how I felt, I said that I felt like I was passing a Saguaro Cactus the size of Vermont. My wife was standing in line at the pharmacy to get my pain meds and talked to a woman with several children who had also had kidney stones. The other woman said that she’d rather have 10 more children than have another kidney stone. Then, years later, my wife had a C-section where air got trapped up inside her chest cavity. From the way she screamed and writhed in anguish, I believe that her pain was worse than my kidney stones.
I love it! Because when I’m really hurting, it is harder to remember which direction the scale goes. Also would be helpful for people with limited language skills.

I think I have actually seen a chart like this in a doctor’s office.

What gets me is you say to the doctor, the pain is around a 9, he says that is GOOD because pain is an indicator of disease activity.
