Even art supplies for children can contain pigments, binders, etc. It can be certified as not toxic, and still be a lousy idea to eat it. And if the art supplies are imported from countries with poor quality control, God alone knows what might be in them.
Kids will eat anything, but treating it as a lark is a seriously bad idea.
