Rover, relax, it's just the mailman. Arf Arf Arf Arf Arf What has he ever done to you?! He once brought a vaccination shot reminder card from my veterinarian. Ouch.
Could be Grog, but I have another idea.
My 2 Boston Terriers are the sweetest little dogs until the mailman comes. From the sounds they make one would think that they would tear him apart, at least from the knees down.
I believe that they act this way because this person comes to their house almost every day, but NEVER comes inside to play with them!
Just my theory!
I’m a retired mailman. I think the dog is rightfully defending his territory. You win, dog. Your master can get his mail at the PO. Unless he thinks of something radical, like a chain.
Lewreader, calm down; the barking is just a warning. He can’t attack you when he’s inside the house.
My dogs only bark at people walking by or approaching the house if I’m not in the front room to see them; sort of an early warning system with shedding and drooling.
My first Sheltie always barked at the mailman’s jeep.
Our mailman, Frank, could get out, scratch the dog’s ears and he would be as friendly as could be…Until Frank started up the jeep again. Then, it was back to barking.

I should start barking at the mailman.

So that’s why they bark. Mailmen are the bearers of bad news - and bills.

Doesn’t matter to whom the postcard was sent, the result of the delivery was done “to” Rover.
