And yet, somehow the U.S. is still responsible for about .25 to .33 percent of the world’s GDP? Maybe if we didn’t use a trickle up economic system, it might be better?
“The Book of the Courtier” has a section where the author muses on this very subject. The author notes that it’s very common that, as people get older, they develop the belief that the world is always going from bad to worse, and each generation is worse than the one before it. Despite the better perspective that age might otherwise provide, they don’t realize that if they were right, then by now we’d be so totally rotten that no further degeneration would be possible.
He speculates that the reason is that as people get older, their ability to enjoy the world is diminished, and so they conclude that it must be the world getting worse.
What makes it especially interesting is that the book was published in 1528, which tells you that phenomenon hasn’t really changed in 500 years.
Perhaps the perception is partly due to the relatively new 24-hour news cycle of "if it bleeds, it leads – and follows – and is repeated, endlessly. " I looked in vain last night for any news other than GermanWings.
Peace and freedom are mutually exclusive. Leftists value peace, and will quickly sacrifice freedom seeking peace. Conservatives value freedom, and will breach the peace seeking freedom. That is the difference, boiled down to the essence.

If a politician ever seeks to “bring us all together” you can bet he wants us marching lockstep to his orders.

I favor the cacophony of freedom. Never pray for peace – pray for freedom. “Peace” is for the dead.
