Wow this does go back! The merchant who yells out his wares on the street was gone even in my childhood (in the U.S. anyway). I am familiar with it from movies, TV, and stories my grandmother used to tell me about her younger days. I think the yelling out has been replaced by posters, TV and radio ads, and now internet banner ads. Pop ups? Maybe.

Skippy, you can’t make the money if you don’t have the product to sell.

When I was a kid, the last people I remember calling out their goods was the umbrella man. He’d fix your umbrella and sharpen you knives.

Brings back memories of New Orleans! Vendors with or without wagons calling out their products. And in my Illinois hometown, the scissor sharpner man with his cart that made a clinking sound as the wheel went around.

I can’t tell you how adorable it is to see a child take off his hat to talk to a lady! Such respect.
