Phoebe: We have P.E. at school today. I'm nervous. It's unpredictable. Sometimes it's fun, like jumping rope. Other times its awful, like climbing a rope. Marigold: You have a complicated relationship with rope. Phoebe: This is what P.E. has done to me.

In my formal education years, we never did the rope climb in P.E.

We only did rope climb one time in junior high. I wanted to do it all the time. I was skinny and nimble and had no problem making it to the top.

I was the worst in my class at the rope climb. Jumping rope was purely playground, not gym.

I never saw girls forced to climb a rope at any time in my school days. The lack of arm strength makes it a waste of time. Dodge-ball is what most girls would dread in 4th grade.
