A somewhat enlarged image can be found at Mr. Melcher’s blog entry (yesterday). Again, this is a slightly cropped image. But, I seriously doubt the artist included the watermark in the upper left quadrant of the image. Don’t be too hard on Mr. Melcher for not noticing it; though that may change, neither did his source (funny thing about computers; they notice such things). A larger, un-watermarked image can be found here.Pharaoh’s Handmaidens isn’t, as far as I can tell, currently shown online by its (I think) current-location, or it may be privately owned (of course, the current-location may have been the purchaser).A click-to-enlarge, different coloration, cropped (no signature at lower left) image, can be found here (where I found the current-location listed). The artist’s obit, Wikipedia page and collection (more under Subcategories).Third, of the 4 works, by this artist, that have, so far, appeared in Mr. Melcher’s blog, to also appear here (3 total).
I’m a costume historian. Normally I don’t comment on the clothing in these pictures even when the Victorianisms are really blatant, but…. Where would any artist get the idea that Egyptian female slaves wore jewelled jockey shorts?
Tomielm: The ones on hors d’oeuvres and wine detail generally wore only a single strand bead belt. Major menu item bearers might get a translucent skirt and simple necklace.
