richard's poor almanac by richard thompson how long have you lived in d.c.? maybe too long let's find out! do you remember these vanished landmarks? washington cool disco dan 1927 gonzaga the old capitol hill water tower, torn down to make room for the su-preme court. note zeppelin hovering in distance over stadium for what was then the washington honest injuns football team. giant spittoon in front of american association of spittoon manufacturers. smithson's world renowned congress of wonders the original smithsonian institution. old department of truth, culture & beauty building. disbanded and demolished. now a starbucks. johnny reb says "welcome to virginia" where the confederacy begins sign, circa 1864. possibly still extant.

Now this is the real Old Washington, —even before the long-ago time when I was a student there, and before Dad worked there during WW II….

The Supreme Court Improv Comedy club is still there. The Congressional Drammedy Theater hasn’t had any new acts since George Burns and Gracie Allen stopped writing for them.
