On August 1, 2007, my cell phone rang and it was one of my daughters. When I answered, all she said was, “Dad! Where are you? Are you driving on interstate 35W? The bridge over the river just collapsed!”.When I could reply I said, “No, I’m in Apple Valley at the doctor’s office! (I was making an appointment for my annual physical) I crossed the bridge about 20 minutes ago!”.Of course, I crossed the Minnesota River bridge, not the Mississippi bridge that collapsed…
Imagine my ‘whew!’ moment when I’d heard on the car radio that the Schoharie Bridge on the NYS Thruway had collapsed after I’d driven over it less than hour before while I waz on my way to Oklahoma City one rainy day back in this month of ‘87, but even worse was finding out that one of my ol’ schoolmates dotters was in the resulting destruction.. Ever since, I’m wary of ‘bridges’ and ‘infrastructure’ that’s almost as old as I am, built by the lowest bidders of the era and rust persists, taxes grow and nothing’s done in the Great Frozen Norf.
Here in good, ol’ Michigan, the gov taxed pensioners, gave almost two billion dollars in tax breaks to his swells, pardoned a drunk driver, and now wants us to vote on raising the sale’s tax “or else” there will be no orange cones in our near future…

“Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.”
Who needs roads when you have a flying dragon and teleportation?
Ugh. Not sure I want to see a week of Dr Emmett Brown meets the Wizard of Id.
