He ultimately became a professional lecturer despite his stuttering – memorized material can be delivered without stuttering, as Mel Tillis proved. However, his stutter of “total” in avoiding alcohol, led to the word.
I think I could use a glass of Shiraz, Australian is the best IMHO… after reading all the comments. I used to be a practicing teetotaler… then I realized I liked red wine… A LOT :)

As a tea totaler, I have never understood substance abuse. Always assumed it was weakness of character, although I suppose it could be body chemistry.
I see four types of addictions, with many sub-classes: sexual, substance, gambling, and (fast-rising) computer.
