Quit stalling, Phoebe, and spell the word.

It’s like rain on your wedding day, Phoebe.

I know they’re kids and it is a comic strip, but if a friendship ends because of a spelling bee, it wasn’t much of a friendship to begin with.

“Ironic, N-U-T-S. Ironic.”

Just spell!

Are YOU getting enough irony in your diet?

Max: “Really, Phoebe, it’s okay. Just spell it. And don’t say ‘I-T’ in order to lose.”

What grade is Phoebe in to get such easy words? I could spell “ironic” in second grade, before I even knew what it meant.

Sorry for going off-script, but the current inability to take responsibility when it should be but grabbing blame for things one has nothing to do with is irritating in the extreme. Attention Phoebe: YOU DID NOT MAKE MAX LOSE. HIs inability to spell “irony” did. PLEASE get over it!!!!

In the headlines today: Gokul Venkatachalam, 14, of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Vanya Shivashankar, 13, of Olathe, Kansas were the last two standing at the Scripps National Spelling Bee on Thursday. A boy and a girl tied!

I was in Boise last week and saw your comic strip printed in the Idaho Statesman. Congrats again on getting published! I’d go with awkward in this scenario.

And this is NOT irony; as the wolf in our midst suggested: more of a quandary (NO, it is NOT a dilemma, either).
