Ignorance really is bliss. They’ve been telling you for years, but you just didn’t listen. Try it. Completely avoid news for a month. No TV news. No newspaper. No Yahoo news. Nothing. And see if your life is better or worse. .Now. What was it you needed to know so badly?
An African warlord sells the daughters of a neighboring village into slavery over religious differences & it’s on the evening news worldwide. It’s been going on since the dawn of time, but it’s still news, & still wrong.
History major (my aunt), final exam. Asked which side of the Hundred Years War she would have agreed with at the time and why. Only exam question. She turned in 1 paragraph, teacher gave her a sad smile and an “I’m sorry” thinking she couldn’t answer the question. She’d written that 99% of people at the time were peasants or serfs, and the abuses both sides would have inflicted as they passed through over and over. For the average person, who had no legal control or weapon, and was bound to the land and whomever was currently in charge- there was no right side or knowledge of what the bleep thee armies’ commanders were thinking
I try to be more informed than a medieval peasant but maintain my sanity (enough to protect myself and know who I’m voting for but not enough to go nuts.
Ahh, the Whatchtower (spleling, let me google that) death worshipers. Jehovah’s Witnesses. Them. They stopped “witnessing” at me after I said “No. Did you know that about five hundred years ago there was an earthquake that submerged [an area] and changed it to salt marsh?” The teenage girl who was witnessing at me was interested, and understood, and understood what I said about communications: the end times are not here because of so many more disasters, it’s just that 300 years ago it took 10 years for something like the headline “Thousands Dead in Nepal, Has Mount Everest Sunk Into the Ocean?” to get to the editor and so was old news and never became a headline.-She seemed intelligent and smart. I hope she got away from them.

NG49 you say there’s no war but there are military people in my streets and a curfew after 10 pm so it doesn’t seem too peaceful either…
