Frazz by Jef Mallett for May 21, 2015
Transcript:
Caulfield: This? It's for...Mrs. Olsen: I know what it is. Hand it to me. I can't keep you from sleeping during social studies, but I don't have to make it easy for you. Caulfield: Boy, she doesn't listen to herself at all. Frazz: I'm not sure there's a way to make the federal reserve act interesting.

Yep, a sad state of affairs, let’s go back to the gold standard!

Agreed. But then again, I was in banking for 10 years, so my opinion might be a bit off norm
;-)

Reminds me of a h.s. social studies exercise my school would do. I like it! (Really disliked the feudal system thing my class did, though)
Do you teach?

Caulfield must slouch way down into his chair, for him to need a neck pillow like that. Cool kid.

Stew Bek: As Populist Stephen McLalley, wrote back when the gold standard was the law: “Imagine a yardstick three feet in 1789, in 1809 was 19 1/2”, in 1849 4’, in 1872 38 1/2" and in" 189? (when it was written), “4’ 3.9”. What a wonderful thing to measure cloth by, to be sure. Yet we measure our debts and credits by no more accurate a standard."

We just barely touch on the Fed. Res. in 8th grade; and not before at all, other than an occasional mention if a social studies teacher pushes current events.

There are so many other things in history to talk about, that it doesn’t come up much in lesson plans…
