Voice: Happy Birthday, mom! Sorry, we didn't get over there yesterday. Woman: Oh, that's ok. I enjoyed reading the card my lovely daughter in law picked out, signed, addressed and mailed. Voice: Wow, mom. you haven't lost step on the guilt thing.
After 20 years of that my sister-in-law told my brother he was a big boy and could pick out and mail his own cards for his own mommy. He has ever since, and he signs her name to the card also.
The whole thing about ignoring/neglecting parents is the childish assumption that they will always be there whenever the child/adult is not busy. But being too busy to phone, send an online gift or a card is just plain old selfish – the message being that the child’s life is so busy with important things that there’s no time for a human relationship.

Sorry you’re cut out of the will, Sonnyboy. If you’d stopped by more often, I might have remembered your name…
