My mother used to grow tomatoes, the only food plant she ever grew. She would start out with a very small plant from the nursery, and end up with tomato vines all over the back yard. I don’t know what she did right, but she sure could grow tomatoes. And they were the most flavorful tomatoes we ever had, no matter which variety she grew each year. Allowing the fruit to ripen on the vine makes them taste so much better than the green-picked ones you find in the supermarket.
