When I saw yesterday’s panel (Ballard St. Pulley Store — Closed), my immediate thought was the strip was either ending or, at least going on hiatus.
Now, today, with the B&W panel….(even though it was dated 2015 – maybe REdated ), I can’t help but to think something’s up regarding the future of Ballard St.
Am I just being paranoid? Anybody know if my fears are unfounded? Maybe I’m just reading too much into the closing of the Pulley Store, a place near and dear to my heart…….
The tree moved.I have heard that before.“I dunno know officer (in a slurred speech) Dang tree jumped right out in front of me.”Another…..Me…“Why did you hit the pedestrian?” it was on a super wide road low speed area, the driver could have just gone around him.The culprit…..“He was in my way so I hit him.”So with Gene……I blame the tree……his angle was prefect…..you see unknown to her the tree was directly behind him when he started backing. It just got in his way.Silly woman to think he took a bad angle.
Wow…. everyone is posting end-of-the-road scenarios for the Pulley Shop….. gosh…. That picture yesterday didn’t look the least bit ominous to me.
It never occurred to me that there was even a problem.
It’s closed every night from 9:23 till 11:17 the next morning…. even earlier on Saturday…. and all day Sunday. And the window always looks rather empty at night…they take down the more expensive pulleys and lock them in the pulley safe, for …um…. I guess safekeeping… till they come back and open the shop again.
I didn’t realise their permits had expired…. I think I’ll check around City Hall and see whether I can help with the backlog.
Stel … I went over to Ballard Street Pulleys, to try and find Paul, the owner, and he showed me just some of their permits…He’s been working with the Sheriff to try and get all his pulley permit paperwork in order…He pointed to a pile of permits plastered on the wall….
But he says he’s been told that most are outdated…so I’m off to see the Monkey.

Sometimes an impact can be so great that the colour will fall right out of the comic.

You never know, Marie. That could have been what Gene intended to do all along. Any self-respecting man will never admit to bad driving.
