When I was in elementary school, our old desks still had the small holes to hold inkwells. We used pens with ink bladders, and then the cylindrical cartridges. What a mess. Every once in a while my shift pockets would get stained..I’m fascinated by the “fill” on these old cartoons. Was it drawn in by hand? Or was it achieved in the printing process?
There was a resurgence in popularity of fountain pens when I was in high school (late 60’s), although they used cartridges rather than inkwells. I do recall the product that Nancy is going into business with, but I’m pretty sure that penwiper is one word. Could be wrong.

Pen wipers? Sometimes I forget when these classics were written.
