Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for July 05, 2015
Transcript:
Counselor: Gather around here, children, and hear the terrifying tale of... The monster that lives in the lake. They say it's a huge green beast, with fangs as long as your arm. It sleeps most of the year... But when it wakes, it's hungry and wants to FEED. I met him! he was hungry, but I brought him some tacos and he is full now. Nice fellow. Phoebe: Marigold, don't ruin the creepy vibe. Marigold: Oh! I am sorry. OOOOOOOOOO! Phoebe: Good try, but it's too late.

You know, this comic seems to so adequately describe the political atmosphere on so many issues. We’ve got someone swaying the masses by weaving this tale of evil and danger, and then we have someone who humanizes this evil danger with truthful insight, which insight is looked down upon by the others. The only thing that’s missing is Marigold getting called a bigot.

I thought the monster looked like a campfire story version of Todd. No?? And thank you for pointing out Sue; I didn’t catch her in all the excitement (of, y’know, the monster and all…)

Could Marigold possibly be creepy? I don’t think so.

The kids in Panel 4 look like a Dana Simpson version of the Crabgrass duo.
