Could this be Poncho before he was called Poncho, “To exist without a name is to exist nameless” Heavy!

“Poncho: Year One” is going to show us Poncho’s backstory. It’ll be an ongoing and open-ended continuity, Monday to Saturday, until Paul Gilligan decides to wrap it up (the storyline, not the strip). It might be six months, it might be a year. The Sunday strips will still feature “present-day” Poncho and the regular gang.

SInce the strip began (1/1/2000) with Poncho and Chazz moving in with Carmen and the cats following C&C’s marriage, I figure anything up to that point is fair game for treatment. Poncho hadn’t even met Carmen prior to the wedding, although he knew Mitzi and presumably Boomer already. (Of course, Gilligan may decide to revise past events as he sees fit.)

It begins …

What this means, of course, is that at some point we’ll see Poncho go from being “intact” to neutered…

(Well, I doubt we’ll actually SEE the transition, but we’ll probably be aware of it when it happens.)
